The Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara has made its way into the drugstores this winter and claims to give lashes a “full fan effect”. It retails for about $7.99 at most drugstores, but I was able to recently find a two dollar off coupon. I wanted to give this a try since I’m a big fan of several Maybelline mascaras, but most of all, I noticed how the packaging was similar to the Too Faced Bettter Than Sex mascara and I was hoping this would be a drugstore dupe!
So this mascara turned out to be far off from my beloved Too Faced mascara but it does have its advantages. Its wand has rubber bristles than vary in size from each end of the wand which helps coat short lashes in the inner corner and lengthen the outer lashes. There are comb like bristles on the underside of this wand which also makes this a good and precise lower lash mascara.
I have worn this mascara everyday for this past week and what I’ve found is that it is very long wearing. I apply it for work at about 6 AM and it looks the same by 10 PM while also holding the curl all day. And, it is perfect if you like long, thin, and “wispy” lashes with absolutely no clumping. This gives a similar look as the Loreal Butterfly Effect and the Covergirl Clump Crusher mascaras in my opinion.
What would stop this from being a go to mascara is the serious lack of volume it provides! I would not consider this a thickening or volumizing mascara at all. If that is what you were hoping for I would suggest the Maybelline Pumped Up Volume mascara. Overall, the formula, curling, and lengthening effect are the highlights of this mascara. I will continue using this on lighter makeup days or as a first coat before a volumizing mascara!
